Our Schoolers Program •
Our Schoolers program fosters independence by allowing students to plan their own activities and transform their classroom into a Club House with spaces for reading, writing, homework, and socializing. By setting realistic expectations, students learn to make decisions and understand their outcomes, enhancing their decision-making and social skills. The program balances structured learning with physical activity, offering outdoor play to release energy after a day at school. Communication is key; we engage students in meaningful conversations about their day, fostering connections between home, community, and school. Our School Age Club Room is a vibrant space where your child can grow, learn, and thrive.
Program
Fostering independence, our students plan their own activities and set up their classroom as their Club House with areas to relax and read, write, draw, finish homework, work on the computer, play games, listen to music or just sit around and talk to friends.
Schoolers need realistic expectations and the opportunity to take part in making decisions and finding out what happens because of decisions they individually make, or the class makes as a team.
Small and large group participation facilitates positive people and social skills, a must for school age children.
Curriculum
Homework is important and has to be done, however Schoolers are always hungry upon afternoon arrival, so snacks are served first, then outside to burn off some of that energy.
Plenty of time is spent outside playing ball, jump scotch, or climbing the equipment.
Physical activity is an easy tool to release built up energy after spending much of their day in a structured school classroom sitting at a desk.
Communication is probably the most important activity we do with our Schoolers. We ask questions, listen for answers and value the talk! Sharing information is essential and both the student and the teacher make this happen by talking about what is happening in school, at home, in the community and around the world.
Our afternoon talks are about learning, sharing the fun and excitement of new skills and encouraging Schoolers to think about the future. The circles of home, community, school and Towne Lake Academy overlap. We are proud that the School Age Club Room is one of the circles your child happily lives in.
